Radiation therapy uses radiation to destroy malignant cells while maximizing protection of normal tissue. Alongside surgery and chemotherapy, it is one of the three pillars of cancer treatment. Radiation Oncology specializes in this therapy for malignant (and some benign) tumors. Building on over 50 years of accumulated technology and experience at the Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences, DIRAMS has provided radiation therapy since 2010. We operate two state-of-the-art linear accelerators capable of 3D conformal therapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), and stereotactic radiation therapy. We are also equipped with a brachytherapy unit essential for gynecologic cancers—comprehensive core equipment befitting our role in regional cancer care. In line with the institute’s vision as a leader in radiation medicine, we continuously translate basic and clinical research into practice to improve outcomes. Our team of radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists, and nurses promises to do our best until the day we conquer cancer with radiation.
